The windy days in Manchester have been blowing the many rootless lichens off their trees and onto the paths. My newest print is inspired by beard lichens or usnea filipendula, if you want to be precise. One particular specimen came across my path a few weeks ago. I tried to put her back on her branch but she just blew away again. These crispy beard-like lichens generally grown in areas of good air quality. They're dangling and sometimes barbed like ranging in cool turquoises to striking greens.
Although these lichens are all year round, they always remind me of Spring. For me, they make the perfect Spring card for a loved one. That's why I decided to carve a mini of her. I really enjoyed making this print, playing with the negative spaces and trying to depict the branch underneath.
