Meet Me At The Surface

Meet Me At the Surface- Book Giveaway!!

Meet Me At the Surface

"between the roots and the sand and the silt"

This book melts its way in and sits, a eel at the bottom of a pool, beautifully and menacingly.

As one of my closest friend’s book comes out in paperback, I was really excited to be asked by her to produce some bookmarks for a giveaway of books!

I was initially -quite stressed- as what if I didn’t managed to make them look good! So out of fourty I made, Jodie picked the best 2 to giveaway with her book and I was then relieved.

I used a gelli plate for the initial print with fresh leaves and flowers. One of the most gorgeous elements of Meet Me at the Surface is its eery and hauntingly beautiful depictions of Bodmin and the entanglements of Cornish folklore. I wanted to emulate the creeping darkness of the novel as well as the lighter aspects. For this, I decided to print negatives in black over golds, oranges and turquoises to give a ghostly effect that also has a lot of colour. Over the top of this I used a lino cut that I carved to look like the front leaves of Jodie’s book designed by the wonderful Ola Galewicz. Then a line synonymous with her novel was printed on the back with vintage letter press letters.
