Sphagnum Obtusum Bog Moss Time

Sphagnum Obtusum Bog Moss Time

I've made two new lino prints! These were inspired by a lovely friend at a workshop we ran at Old Post Hall, Sheffield Hallam University. The workshop was called 'Creatively Responding to Archival Material' which was produced alongside the Beyond the Archives Exhibition that ran for the last week of August.

As a Creative Research Assistant, I help set up the exhibition and co-facilitate the workshop. Jamie, a brilliant artist who is extremely knowledgeable about archives, brought some archival material and we worked to respond with lino printing and other visual art techniques. On Jamie's list of archival material were some extinct plants from the Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland archive. It was so interesting to see them up close and to think about what has been lost.

So much so, that I started to look at the colour patterns of mosses that are extinct or near extinct in the UK. I came across Sphagnum Obtusum and honestly, at first I just loved it for its name..looking at the pictures though, I really loved the variations of green against the bobbing dark blues of the waters.

This was when I decided to make into a reduction print. If you fancy having a look or potentially buying one, they are on my website in two different forms. One is the reduction print and the other is a completely green version that hasn't used the reduction technique. If you buy 2 or more, 10% discount will be added to your basket.
